Coffee Science and Bullshit — What Makes Coffee Science Scientific?
Date: Thursday, 22 October 2026
Time: 16:00–17:00 Copenhagen time (CEST, UTC+2), with optional extended Q&A until around 17:15
Location: Kontras Kaffehus, Dag Hammarskjölds Allé 36, Copenhagen — and online
Short description
How do we distinguish science, practical experience and convincing bullshit? Join CoffeeMind for a live seminar and podcast recording about asking better questions and evaluating the evidence behind coffee’s many claims.
About this event
An impressive graph, a precise number or a confident explanation does not automatically make good evidence. So what should we look for before accepting a claim about coffee?
In the first session of Coffee Science and Bullshit, we explore scientific thinking and research design through practical examples from the coffee world:
- What makes a claim testable?
- How do we design an experiment that answers the question we are asking?
- What do repeated measurements and variation tell us about data quality?
- When does an explanation become more convincing than the evidence justifies?
You will leave with practical questions you can use to evaluate coffee claims and investigate your own ideas more systematically.
Format
Approximately 45 minutes of presentation followed by questions from the room and online. Set aside one hour. If you would like to explore the discussion further, stay for an optional extended Q&A until around 17:15.
